Welcome to my website and online portfolio. I design and hand-craft custom wood and upholstered furniture (such as tables, chairs, clocks, lamps, benches, desks, bookcases, mirrors, sofas, etc.) My furniture is primarily built of solid wood, but also uses many other materials including, wood veneer, leather, glass, marble, and tile. My favorite woods to work with include ash, cherry, ebony, mahogany, maple, walnut, white oak, and wenge. I am a New England based designer and craftsman, formerly located on the island of Martha's Vineyard, I relocated to New Hampshire in 1999. I have many clients in the Boston, Massachusetts area as well as the rest of the northeast and well beyond, and strive to deliver excellent original design as well as heirloom quality workmanship. I am a member of the New Hampshire Furniture Masters Association (NHFMA), as well as the Furniture Society. My work falls within the broad traditions of the American studio furniture movement, following in the footsteps of artisan/designers such as George Nakashima and Sam Maloof. You will see influences of the Arts & Crafts movement, Art Deco, and mid-century modernism in my furniture. In an entirely different vein, I have also done quite a bit of work inspired by classical and neoclassical architecture. I hope you enjoy your visit. - Gary Spykman
