When people learn that I am a furnituremaker, they often ask what style of furniture I make. I never know how to answer. I suppose I could say "I make unique contemporary furniture whose design is informed by a wide variety of twentieth-century European and American design movements". Accurate, but rather pretentious sounding. Truth be told, I don't wish my furniture to be of any style, because styles, like fashions, come and go. This is why we refer to a thing as being in style or out of style. Good design should be timeless, and that is what I try to achieve. My aim is that the furniture you purchase today will still look fresh twenty, fifty or a hundred years from now.
All of my furniture is built to order in one of two ways. First. I have existing designs you can choose from (the list is always growing). If you see a picture in my portfolio which you like, I can make a similar piece for you in your choice of woods without the added cost and delay of full custom design. The second option is custom-designed commissioned work. Usually I work directly with the client on these projects, but sometimes through architects and interior designers. The commissioning process varies from project to project. We can set up an appointment to meet at my studio, or if it's more convenient we can meet at your home or project site. Sometimes it might make more sense to do all our communication via phone, fax, and e-mail. However the process works, my job is to pay close attention to your needs and desires and to produce a design which meets your needs with elegance and grace.
